Advantages of EPDM Rubber Gaskets
EPDM rubber seals provide reliable, long-term sealing in extreme weather conditions and over a wide temperature range. Compared to other rubber materials, EPDM provides excellent resistance to aging, abrasion, wind, weathering, ozone and ultraviolet light.
EPDM rubber is also color stable, which means EPDM seals will not stain mating surfaces. EPDM sealing also provides good electrical insulation; however, most special seals made of EPDM rubber are not recommended for contact with oil, gasoline, halogenated solvents and concentrated acids.
Solid, Sponge and Foam Rubber EPDM Gaskets
Solid EPDM seals and sponge rubber EPDM seals are available in a variety of durometers. Foam rubber EPDM is characterized by closed cells or open cells. Special EPDM seals made of closed cell sponge rubber are used in HVAC systems, electrical enclosures and door and window seals in automobiles. Die-cut EPDM gaskets made of open cell sponge rubber are used in applications such as shock absorption and electrical insulation.
